Andrew Irving has provided infrastructure and business unit project management services for 18+ years and technical operation services for 30+ years.
In 1998, after a decade of live event and broadcast technical operations, it became clear that digital content distribution offered an exceptional opportunity to take part in changing the face of global communications. An invitation to join Online Broadcasting, a then Vancouver-based webcast production company, offered Andrew the opportunity to tie together all of his years of technical experience in a fast–paced and detail-oriented production environment. At the time, the client base included four of Canada’s major banks, TELUS and a number of other Fortune 500 companies. Webcast production has been an integral part of IrvTech’s service offerings ever since.
In the spring of 2003, a gig to webcast the TELUS AGM led to a 4-year engagement with the company’s Executive Communications team to develop, grow, and operate the enterprises’ internal streaming video delivery infrastructure as well as manage the re-development and operations of their internal digital signage network. The management of these complex projects opened the the door to further project management opportunities.
When Mediaco was looking to create an in-house webcast production business unit in 2010, they turned to IrvTech to manage the project. Responsible for the project management of all aspects of building the unit from inception, development, workflow and process management, vendor selection, risk management and quality control. Also included were support of daily operations, training, and support of onsite techs. Andrew Irving built a profitable unit that delivered exceptional service beyond expectations with a 99.99% success rate.
In 2020, when an online voting company client whose business operations were severely impacted by restrictions on in-person group meetings due to COVID-19, IrvTech and project partners Telemetech and OnTrack Planning created The Streaming Agency to address the client’s needs. As program manager, Andrew oversaw strategic planning, implementation, risk, quality control and project management for the delivery of live remote presentation content streams for 70+ “can’t fail” virtual Annual General Meeting projects. A highlight project from this program was the planning, development, implementation, and operation of a private video content delivery network in reaction to the impact caused by the failure of a major global CDN. While there were many lessons learned, we delivered consistent quality with a 100% success rate.
Andrew believes that it takes mastery of a number of skillsets to support the successful delivery of technical projects. Over the years, he has developed an extensive skillset and knowledge-base in a number of areas including, but not limited to:
